Professor Tod Machover, B.M., M.M.
Chairman
Tod Machover has recently been called "America's most wired composer" by the Los Angeles Times. Since 1985, he has worked at the MIT Media Lab where he is currently Professor of Music and Media and head of the Lab's Opera of the Future group. Machover has been awarded some of the world's most prestigious awards for his music and inventions, such as a "Chevalier" (Knightship) in France and the first Ray Kurzweil Prize for music and technology. Machover is noted for inventing new technology for music, especially his Hyperinstruments that use computer algorithms to augment musical expression and creativity. He has designed these Hyperinstruments for musicians from Yo-Yo Ma to Prince, as well as for the general public and children, as in the Toy Symphony project.
Mr. Richard Resnick, M.S., M.B.A
President and CEO
Richard Resnick is a ten-year entrepreneur in the software industry, with demonstrated ability in business planning, fund raising, team building, technology development management, and P&L management. After running the R&D software development group for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, he founded and grew Mosaic Bioinformatics. Mosaic was acquired by NetGenics, Inc., where Resnick contributed to the raising of $60 million in venture capital and managed half of the company in the large-scale development and launch of their flagship product. He has held senior management and consultative positions in a variety of software startups, including Gene-IT and Blackstone Computing. Resnick received his M.S. in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and his M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management's Management of Technology program.
Mr. Nicholas Pettinella, C.P.A., M.B.A
Executive Vice President and CFO
Nick Pettinella is a senior financial executive with 25 years of experience in financial reporting, processes, controls, and management. He has participated in raising over one hundred forty million dollars in financing through public equity and private debt and equity, negotiated and managed the purchase, sale and divestiture of nine companies, and has been through the IPO process twice managing the financial affairs and investor relations of a publicly owned company. Pettinella served as the CFO of ideaLogix, Inc., a wireless video and sensor monitoring development company, CFO of IronBridge Networks, Inc., a later-stage terabit router development company, and CFO of Intermetrics/AverStar, Inc. (name change), an established $200 million software development and software services company acquired by The Titan Corporation. He began his career as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers, in their Boston office. Pettinella received his MBA from Babson College and his BS in Accounting from Bentley College. He also completed the programs of Corporate Financial Management at Harvard Business School and Executive Financial Management at Stanford University.
Mary Farbood, B.M., M.S., Ph.D.
CTO
Mary Farbood is the author of the Hyperscore software and a Ph.D candidate at the MIT Media Lab. Mary’s research focuses on algorithmic composition and interactive music systems. She has worked on a number of projects that combine music and technology including the Future Music Blender, an interactive music installation at the Brain Opera Exhibit at the House of Music in Vienna, and Palestrina, a software application which analyzes and generates sixteenth-century-style counterpoint. After spending seven years at the Juilliard School concentrating on piano performance and composition, she went on to receive her B.A. in Music and Computer Science from Harvard University in 1997. Mary is an accomplished composer, pianist, and harpsichordist.
Dr. Kevin Jennings, M.A., B.Mus, B.Sc, H.Dip.Ed, Ph.D.
Vice President Learning Design
Kevin Jennings is a musician, teacher and music educator, and a graduate of both Trinity College Dublin and the National University of Ireland. As a classical guitarist he has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe. He has taught extensively in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US in both school and out- of-school settings, and has been extensively involved with childrens’ choirs, orchestras, music theater productions and other childrens’ performing groups. He is currently a Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin where he lectures in music education and is completing a Ph.D in the application of computers and graphical technologies to music teaching and learning.
